Easy Fabric Hair Pins - by Jodie Zebra

Hi guys!
So we are heading into, what some may call the "silly season" aka - Christmas time.
Personally I love it, its the best time of the year, even with all the craziness, the busy times, and most of all, the gift giving.

I thought I would share with you a super quick and easy little idea, that you could use, to make up a sweet little handmade gift, this Christmas.
One of my favourite things to make are fabric buttons, they are easy, and the texture at the end is awesome!
I totally love the texture of the Buzz and Bloom cord, so I had to try it out and make some fabric buttons with it!

First you will need the tools to make fabric buttons, These can be found at most craft stores.

Along with the fabric of your choice, for a beautiful textured button I used some Avocado and Magenta Cord: Patchwork fineliner

According to your package instructions that come with the tool, cut your fabric to the desired size, and using the little tool, create your new fabric button.
Then its as simple as sliding your bobby pin onto the button shank loop, and your ready to wear your new creation.
Or perhaps give it as a cute Christmas gift this year, you could make a sweet little card to attach them to, for cute presentation.

Here is how they turned out, see what I mean about that awesome texture?!

I just adore these two shades, especially the magenta.

Ive made mine up, as cute hair accessories for my Blythe dolls.
They would also look adorable on little girls, and adults too of course.

Miss You - by Cookie Aguilar

I am still creating layouts with pictures of our beloved relatives back in the Philippines.  Harvey enjoys looking at me as I scrap them and he would often tell me... "Mommy, I miss Lola Mommy, Momsy, Lola Mama (Thats what he calls his 3 grandparents), Tita Lina, Tita Iris, Tita Vani, he can go on mentioning everyone we have left there."  He would often mention all the things that are memorable to him and will say, "I'm sad because I miss them."  Good thing the internet is there to the rescue and he will be really happy to see everyone on the webcam.   

Here is a layout I've made with Harvey together with his Lola Momsy, and 2 aunts.  I just love this photo and so happy to be able to scrap it.

 
I used the following Buzz and Bloom products on this page:  I used the negative portion of the CB Slide Show - Frames, CB Shelby Alphabet - Small and ACR: Blame it on Sunshine - Bubblegum.

 

Those squares can be opened to reveal hidden journals for each person in the photo... I accentuated each cover with the ACR: Blame It on the Sunshine- Bubblegum.

 
 Then, I misted the title to give it a shimmering look.

 

Certainly will be scrapping more pictures with our beloved family back in Manila.  This way, we can truly express how much we missed them.

Hidden Journaling: FUN - by Ruby Bisson

 Hey everyone! I hope you are all having a lovely week. :)
The current focus on the blog at the moment is 'hidden things' so envelopes, flaps, pull outs... and all things interactive!
I did my layout using  Chipboard Vette Alphabet - Large (painted white) the Chipboard Borderline: Flower centres (painted white) and some Cord Garden Corners in Azure. :)

My kids love to look through their albums, looking back at all the photos and stories from their childhood. How much more fun would it be for them if you made a page that was interactive, that they could actually play with, as well as look at.
Now some of you might cringe at the idea, thinking but then the page would have to come out of the protector and it could get damaged.
I have an interactive page to show you with a solution to make it viable without removing it from the protector!
Living in Brisbane the summers can get quite hot, and last year was no exception, we also have major water restrictions going on. So one weekend when it was sweltering and we had one of our typical summer storms the boys got busy with an old tarp and some soap powder and made up a self watering  waterslide courtesy of the rain.
I had so many photos of them! Not knowing which ones to pick to scrap, I wanted a way to get lots on the page.
So here is what I came up with.
I took the CB Slide Show: Photo Negatives and painted it the colour I wanted to match my papers, I then turned it over and added some thick card to the side edges and then another flat piece to cover the back, but only gluing it down on the side edges. Before I glued the backing sheet down I covered it and added my photos.
Next I made up my slider, using patterned paper and my selected photos carefully marking out where I needed them to go so they would show under the frame. Then I popped on some tabs at both ends and inserted it into the frame.
I called my youngest to come try it and see if it worked...it did and he loved it!!
After completing the rest of the layout I then slid the page inside a protector and marked out either end of the protector where the frame was, removing the layout and carefully cutting slits in the protector so the tabs could be pulled out without removing the layout.

So there you have a nice easy way to add extra photos to your page as well as make a great fun interactive layout!

"GROW" Layout - by Nina Granzien

Hiya Everyone, thanks for stopping by the Buzz and Bloom Blog.

For this project we were asked to create an interactive element that could be used on our layout.

Admitedly, I was a little overwhelmed at first ... I had never really ever incorporated an interactive element on any of my layouts before.

Anyways, I am not one to shy away from a challenge or the opportunity to try something new ... in fact, I believe it creates a sense of achievment when one has ultimately stepped out of their usual "comfort zone" and into a world of even more possibilities.

Here's what I came up with ...

 

As the basis for my layout, I utilised some amazing photos I had recently taken of our baby girl.  Now, because there were heaps of fantastic photos taken on this occasion, I decided to create a flip-up pocket as a means of incorporating more photos and to include some hidden journalling.

To create the flip up pocket, I simply used a clear self-seal packaging envelope ... I really don't know if that is the correct terminology for them, but as scrapbookers, I am certain you have at one time or another, purchased embellishments that were packaged in them.  Here, this is what they look like ...

 

I simply cut my photos to size so that they would fit into the clear packaging, and adhered it to my layout using double sided tape.  When the flip up pocket is "flipped up" it also reveals some hidden journalling.

 
 
I have also used the following Buzz and Bloom chipboard products on my layout: Botanica Flowers - Small and Long Corner Flourish - small.  To add interest and colour to the chipboard, I simply sprayed them with Mustard Seed Glimmermist ... this gives a beautiful glittery effect to the chipboard which I feel really added some elegance to this particular layout.

Interactive layouts make it even funnier to watch our scrapbooks over and over again!

I had a lot of fun making this one, as a puzzle game, using my page protector as the background...

  

How to do that kind of puzzle?
I first cut the picture into 12 even squares and then, I draw a grid pattern (at the squares' size) on the protective sheet. I used my sewing machine to stitch over the grid lines...
Then on each square of this grid I cut out, with a little blade, a border of 3mm on the right side, in order to be able to add and remove the photo squares afterwards...

I placed the pictures' parts randomly and decorated the layout with some of my favorite Buzz and Bloom embellishments of the moment... clear acrylics and denim!

Clear acrylics are very easy to use and can be altered to match every style you need to have! I wanted a "cloudy look" to fit the picture, so I put some classical white ink on the back of the clear Acrylic Fat Albert Alphabet and Acrylic Lava Lamp - Small, and paused to let them dry for some time...

 

I completed the layout embellishment with white inked Chipboard Arboretum: Retro Vine (a part of it) and a Denim Mini Tokens: Going Places (world map)

It's Hard To Have a Fave Blythe - by Jodie Zebra

Hi guys, hope your week has been great so far!
Time for another layout share. 
For this layout I have used one of the CB Turn Turn Turn: For Every Purpose  spinners, as the main feature of my layout, and I based it around that.

The cool thing about this spinner, is that it's versatile! You can fill the inner slots with anything you want, for example, journaling, photos, co-coordinating pictures - you get the idea.
With this layout, I thought it would be cool to include some little extra pictures, so the spinner was perfect for that.
I simply traced out the shape onto my photos, using the top layer slot for sizing, then glued them onto the inner piece.
I colored the inside piece, with some pink crayon, to add a little color, and then covered the top with some patterned paper, which was glued on.  Once dry, I simply cut and sanded the edges to get a smooth nice finish.
The arrow was painted, and glittered.  To attatch it to the page, I glued the base piece of the spinner onto my layout - you can leave this free moving if you wish.  Then using a large brad, I attatched it through the spinner arrow, top layer, right through the bottom glued piece, and backing of the layout, securing at the base of my page.
Now the brad helps the spinner top move around to reveal the photos, as well as the moving arrow, with ease.
I then added some doodling, to outline.

 

Once the spinner was complete, the rest of the layout just fell into place.
Some of the other Buzz and Bloom products I have used are the CB TMS Frills which I covered in some cute pink glitter.

For the main titles I used CB Shelby Alphabet as well as  CB Vette Alphabet both of which were painted bright yellow, and glittered, to tie into the rest of the page.

I also added one of my most fave products, a little apple from the ACR Fruit Salad

Hello!

This month, the DT gals were given another great challenge - that is to make an interactive layout with Buzz and Bloom products! This really got me thinking really hard!!

So here's what I decided on... can you tell what it is?

On the layout, I used Chipboard ABC: Vette Alphabet for the title,  a cut out Chipboard Botanica Flower on the left, Denim Up the Garden Path, Acrylic Room With A View in dayglo orange, Acrylic Mirror Mirror On the Wall in gloss black BUT the magic is in the Chipboard The Mini Series: Pop Art alpha negatives!

If you follow the numbers written on the alphas... it will read 'Yi Por' which is a Chinese Dialect for Grand Aunt. This is not all... I have also made another template with patterned paper and the words will only show when you slot it behind the alpha negative!

Slot the template in and Voila!

There you have it! Make your own secret message and share it with us!

"Little Boy" - by Jaz Lee

This page comes with two outlooks, as in two different photos. First picture is of my son playing with his BMW toy car and then the second one is of the 'dramatic' him - crying, and yes, still sitting on the same car. This page comes with a flap album too, to hold photos of my boy when he was 2 years old. I am using the whole panel of  Acrylic Fat Albert Alphabet (clear) as the album cover here. I applied Stazon ink over it . Then I cut some papers from my old storybook to layer below the alphas K,A and I, which is my boy's name. I used a ring to hold the cover on the page. The little door is from his lego set and the two acrylic pieces are the ACR Party Time (fuchsia) present and cupcake. I embellished them with buttons and rub-ons.

As for the title, it's the chipboard ABC: That 70s Alphabet (small) and it is sitting on the denim On Cloud Nine (emerald) clouds which are so fun to use. I had so much fun creating this page and I hope this page makes you happy too.

October Project: Interactive Elements

I love to get up close and personal with a scrapbook. So often, the elements just call out to be touched. Usually, you just want to fondle the pretty paper or an embellishment that is just too cute. But I love it when a page needs to be touched and handled in order to get the whole story. Maybe the journalling is hidden, or there are extra photos if you open the flap. As a kid I loved pop-up books, well truth be told I still do, so this month I challenged the DT to create an interactive element on their layout.

Give it a try sometime - create interactive elements for your scrapbook pages and watch as people enjoy them even more!
